The infection prevention department is responsible for all CMS mandated HAI reporting, state mandated communicable disease reporting, hand hygiene compliance, infection prevention rounds, construction risk assessments, education and regulatory readiness. Clusters/outbreaks of infectious diseases are investigated and control measures instituted to prevent the spread of further infection. Infection prevention staff facilitate and participate in multiple quality improvement processes and provide expertise to multiple forums (product value analysis, disinfection of medical equipment). This department supports all acute care facilities and associated ambulatory settings. In addition, consultative services are provided to our long term, ambulatory and at home partners. 

The Infection Prevention Associate (LPN) is responsible for assessment and evaluation of infection prevention practices in HHC ambulatory entities to include the Behavioral Health Network, HHC Rehabilitation Network, Senior Services and HHCMG. Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

  • Performs environment of Care rounds, both purposeful and responsive observing and reinforcing IP standards as well as encourages and communicates with staff and site managers to maintain environment of care standards and documentation.
  • Rounding will focus on opportunities for improvement related to both the physical environment and standard workflows.
  • Provides documentation and feedback to local site managers and pertinent leadership
  • Tracks, evaluates and may lead performance improvement projects
  • Works as part of the Infection Prevention team to teach and update clinical practices to assure the delivery of quality patient care through the design, redesign and implementation of processes to achieve desired clinical outcomes, incorporating the latest evidence-based research findings.
  • Provides education and in-service to staff and managers on topics including but not limited to standard precautions, hand hygiene, medication storage and handling.
  • Represents and contributes to Infection Control Committees and HHC Infection Prevention Council regularly



Diploma from an accredited practical nurse program


  • 3 years nursing experience in ambulatory care setting.
  • Recent experience in training/precepting employees.
  • Committee, performance improvement work a plus.

Licensure, Certification:

  • Current Connecticut Licensed Practical Nurse License required
  • CIC certification strongly preferred
