The Senior Communications Specialist is responsible for telling the story of Hartford HealthCare in engaging ways and using a variety of written and digital platforms to reach internal and external audiences. The Senior Communications Specialist also supports strategic marketing and growth initiatives, as well as programs and services that help people live their healthiest lives. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Determines and supports key initiatives for strategic marketing and communication, including institutes and major service lines, and partners with the director or manager to develop, execute, track and report on marketing plans.
  • Develops external communications to support HHC goals, working with local and system departments to obtain approvals as necessary. 
  • Leads employee communication efforts, including the creation and distribution of a weekly e-newsletter and quarterly system-wide magazine.
  • Updates and manages content for organization website and Intranet, working with stakeholders to ensure information is current and correct.
  • Integrates digital platforms (such as social media, web, e-marketing, visual story-telling) into communications and marketing strategies.
  • Writes and edits news releases, presentations, talking points, speeches, articles, publications, Powerpoint presentations, and collateral material, obtaining reviews and approvals as necessary.
  • Organizes events, handling aspects such as staffing, management, event support, etc.
  • Responds to requests for information from media and the public, under the direction of Director and system communications staff as needed to provide appropriate level of response.
  • Manages earned media opportunities to support physicians, initiatives and new programs.
  • Supports Facebook Live and HHC television integrations.
  • Supports the needs of regional presidents and their leadership teams, including the development of quarterly board reports and business unit review presentations
  • Participates in physician onboarding, including scheduling and supporting bio videos with talking points, etc.
  • Assists director or manager in providing monthly marketing and communications updates to senior leadership so that they are aware of all communications and marketing.
  • Ensures community education events are scheduled and promoted.
  • Provides photography and videography support as needed.
  • Ensures that all materials adhere to HHC branding standards.

Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree Education or related field is required.

Experience: 

  • Four to ten years of previous communications or journalism experience required, including publication of visual and written work in one or more of the following: marketing materials, advertising/design agency products for clients, magazines, journals, newspapers or websites. 
  • Experience working in a large matrix organization with a complex integrated service delivery system in a competitive market.
  • Healthcare experience strongly preferred, though other service-oriented industry experience may be considered.
