Job Summary

Instructs students in the areas of sports, recreational activities, and healthy lifestyle issues.  Provides structured management in the classroom.  Coordinates curriculum with the School Principal.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Reviews, acknowledges, implements, and updates annual goals and intermediate objectives for each student of the school as applicable.
  2. Explores new teaching techniques and enrichment programs on a continual basis.
  3. Utilizes fitness concepts to achieve and maintaining a health enhancing level of physical fitness.
  4. Plans and delivers activities that will assist in the development of fine and gross motor moves.
  5. Prepares a curriculum that links physical activities with issues related to health and well-being.
  6. Manages student behavior according to the policies and procedures of the School. Communicates expectations for student achievement. Provides a safe and structured environment at all times, instituting therapeutic holds when safety is threatened.
  7. Consults with Principal regarding the Program’s mission and operations to ensure they are in support of the Organization’s overall mission. Develops positive culture in classroom.
  8. Works collaboratively as a team member with school staff members, parents, colleagues, and administrators.
  9. Participates in complex games when necessary.
  10. Performs other duties, as required by the School Principal.


  • Bachelor's degree and CT certification to teach Physical Education/Health.
  • Master's degree is a plus.
  • Must possess and maintain CPR and first aid certification and Rushford restraint qualifications.
  • Previous experience working with socially and emotionally disturbed students.
  • Previous experience working with socially and emotionally disturbed students.
