The Vice President will lead the development and advancement of a system focus program for nursing professional development and training based upon patient & family centered care approaches that achieves quality outcomes. The Vice President assures that the strategies are supported by latest evidence based practices and are continually advancing nursing research and innovation to align with Hartford HealthCare’s overall system mission. The Vice President is a collaborative partner with the regional and service line Nursing Education leaders and directly reports to the EVP and System Chief Nursing Officer, sitting on the CNO’s cabinet and working closely with The Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (https://hartfordhealthcare.org/health-professionals/education/cesi).
Leads development and drives implementation of standardized of clinical education strategies that address organization needs, fosters improved outcomes and advances competency through utilization of current nursing theory, research and regulatory requirements
Conducts system and site needs assessment to identify educational gaps. Prioritizes initiatives and projects to drive highest value outcomes and support of system strategies and goals
Ensures educational programs address regulatory requirements. Establishes curriculum that addresses novice to expert professional development needs area across all areas of care and at all levels of the organization
Leads and facilitates the development of a system wide onboarding and orientation model to facilitate a seamless transition to practice. Leads the implementation of an innovative orientation based on a competency model to create a safe, competent new associate
Leads and facilitates the development of standard nursing new graduate residency. Leads the system-wide new graduate residency program development by providing structure and support, including outcome measurements
Analyzes trends that may impact cost effective delivery of educational programming/professional development. Identifies improvement opportunities in education design and delivery/professional practice activities
Promotes internal and external stakeholder management; fosters and sustains ongoing dialogue and partnership with HR/learning, nursing and operations leadership, including safety and simulation leaders, and colleagues over nursing professional practice, business operations and informatics to ensure clinical development is aligned with broader strategies and desired outcomes
Identifies and develop networks and partnerships (including strategic school partnerships) that further the effectiveness of our educational programs. Elicits feedback from internal and external customers concerning services. Identify internal/external experts (nursing and non-nursing) to contribute to education/professional practice
Collaborates with system quality leaders and stakeholders to ensure alignment with quality, safety, high reliability and service goals, as well as regulatory standards
Leads the development of nursing leadership educational programming and strategy for new and experienced leaders
Master's degree in Organizational Development, Education, Nursing or directly related field is required
Five plus years of directly related experience required
Three plus years of experience training in the patient care field and the design and development of nurse training programs in a large scale (regional or national) healthcare organization
Extensive knowledge of training and development practices
In-depth understanding of adult learning theory, planning, development and evaluation
Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal and communications skills, effective critical thinking, and the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
Planning, deployment and evaluation expertise
Ability to lead through influence and boundary span. Demonstrated leadership skills
Utilizes evidence based practice principles in course content design
Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills
Demonstrated ability to be flexible when changing priorities
