Position Summary:

The Vice President will work collaboratively with the system’s Chief Nursing Officer and regional and service line nursing leaders to drive nursing practice innovation across the organization. The Vice President will oversee the development, implementation and evaluation of structures and processes that promote evidence-based nursing practice and advancement of cost-effective, quality patient care and services through utilization of a variety of research, analytical, and problem-solving technologies. The Vice President assures that the strategies are continually advancing nursing research and innovation to align with Hartford HealthCare’s overall system mission. The VP, directly reporting to the EVP and System Chief Nursing Officer, will sit on the CNO’s cabinet and work closely with The Center for Education, Simulation and Innovation (https://hartfordhealthcare.org/health-professionals/education/cesi).

Key Accountabilities:

  • Accountable to lead and facilitate processes and systems to support state-of-the-art nursing practice and research
  • Promote principled decision-making based on the best evidence and practice standards to determine clinical standards and policy decisions. Organize and coordinate decision-making by appropriate clinical experts and teams across the organization
  • Maintain an efficient process for the development, approval, and review of nursing policies consistent with available evidence, best-known outcome and practice standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Provide system-wide consultation and support to achieve consistent use of appropriate principles, standards, and techniques for developing, implementing and evaluating evidence-based practice tools and resources
  • Work in partnership with the Vice President of Quality and Safety on the development and monitoring of system-wide nursing quality measurement strategies to ensure alignment with quality, safety, high reliability and service goals, as well as regulatory standards
  • Provide a system-wide analysis of results, accomplishments and areas of future opportunity.
  • Increase system-wide visibility and commitment to state-of-the-art nursing practice through effective communication strategies and other approaches.
  • Promotes internal and external stakeholder management; fosters and sustains ongoing dialogue and partnership with HR/learning, nursing and operations leadership, including safety and simulation leaders, and colleagues over nursing professional practice, business operations and informatics to ensure clinical development is aligned with broader strategies and desired outcomes
  • Leads and facilitates the development of standard nursing practice. Identifies national and best practice benchmarks by which to measure nursing clinical quality. Evaluates clinical effectiveness and sets priorities for improvement
  • Assures alignment to electronic health record of clinical practices/process and works with CNIO to assure competency in clinical documentation
  • Provides leadership and guidance for development of nursing research capabilities and funding.
  • Provides leadership and guidance for the development and sustainability of a nursing shared governance culture across the organization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field and Master's Degree is required. One degree must be in nursing
  • Five plus years of directly related experience leading educational, innovation, and practice change within a healthcare system
  • Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut or the ability to obtain
  • Extensive experience developing, planning and delivering education and clinical practice
  • Expertise in the principles of learning and instructional design, adult learning theory, educational research, development of competency-based education, and assessment of student learning (skills, knowledge and attitudes)
  • Experience developing and utilizing technology-based instruction, small group education methodology and evaluation
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal and communications skills, effective critical thinking, and the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to lead through influence and boundary span. Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible when changing priorities
