St. Vincent’s Medical Center, with more than 3,200 colleagues, is a 473-bed community teaching hospital having a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group and St. Vincent’s Special Needs Services. The Director is responsible for setting the vision and managing the operations of the multiple departments that support Perioperative Services at St Vincent’s Medical Center. The Director will collaborate with physician leaders, the management team and relevant clinical and administrative leaders to ensure that the highest level of quality patient care is delivered. Working closely with the Vice President of Medical Affairs, the Director will improve operating results across the entire Perioperative Services line by creating an integrated service line business plan, identifying and overseeing the implementation of new clinical and nonclinical programs, and developing operational metrics that align with the achievement of key regional and system strategic objectives.
Ensures superior customer service by providing senior level guidance and support in development and management of customer, employee and physician relationships within Perioperative Services.
Ensures effective revenue cycle operations. Executes business plans by assigning accountability to appropriate staff and/or physicians, monitoring progress, making appropriate adjustments and finding solutions to obstacles.
Structures business disciplines to facilitate quick and informed decisions and ensures accountability for execution.
Builds a committed high performance team across multi-disciplinary roles for Perioperative Services, incorporating evidence based practice, nurturing commitment to common vision and shared value and driving operational excellence and results.
Drives the development and execution of short and long term business plans and corresponding budgets by collaborating with physician leaders and administration in strategic planning, marketing, defining strategy, gaining system support, assigning accountability to appropriate staff and/or physicians, monitoring progress, making appropriate adjustments through problem resolution within and across Perioperative Services.
Creates, implements and drives improvement efforts through effective staff involvement, project management and communication through LEAN methodologies and H3W initiatives.
Participates in development and implementation of policies and procedures that directly impact patient care and achieve established operating metrics and increase profitability. Ensures/oversees development of improvements through integration and standardization of operations across the program(s). Ensures compliance with all internal policies and external regulations.
Provides leadership, coaching and mentoring through the articulation of performance enhancement accountabilities. Develops and communicates clear performance expectations, monitors work, and challenges individuals to achieve their potential.
Drives employee engagement and ensures individual and group recognition to cultivate high morale and motivation of staff. Acts as a role model for the H3W leadership behaviors and ensures the demonstration of the behaviors across teams/departments.
Maximizes and leverages resources, collaboration and efficiency, and communicates in a manner that fosters understanding, commitment and results.
Bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare administration or related field is required. Master’s degree or additional advanced clinical or business credentials is preferred
Ten plus years of management experience with expertise in operational aspects of a healthcare institution is required
Excellent leadership, decision-making and organizational skills. Ability to coach, mentor and influence
Management skills with emphasis on time management, problem solving, conflict management, cultural diversity, adaptability, and creativity
Experience with strategic planning processes
Strong operational leadership skills, including experience providing business leadership to physicians and healthcare staff
Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Experience developing and using metrics to measure performance of teams, processes, and services
Strong financial analysis skills. Solid understanding of operational impact on profit and loss and experience creating and managing a budget
Fiscal understanding of physician practice revenue and reimbursement cycle
Strong knowledge of Lean and performance improvement methodologies
Knowledge of regulatory compliance issues
