Job Summary

The Lead Admission Specialist coaches and mentors the Admission Specialist team in daily operations, including but not limited to triage of calls.  Processes referrals and requests for service from prospective clients and professionals, directing these requests to the most appropriate level of care.  Schedules appointments and accurately collects detailed information regarding client status, demographics, and insurance benefits.  Focus on excellent internal and external customer service.  The Lead Admissions Specialist reports to the Admissions Supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Participates in recruiting, hiring and training of new staff; coaches and mentors team members as needed.
  2. Collaborates with the team to develop monthly work schedule to ensure sufficient coverage for business hours.
  3. Implements best practice and standard work for screening and intake, scheduling, insurance verification, daily charges and report management.
  4. Effectively listens for urgency & crisis to coordinate or involve emergency services as necessary.     
  5. Schedules ambulatory and residential assessments, adhering to Rushford standards for emergent, urgent, and routine needs. Refers clients to appropriate alternate facilities when Rushford is unable to meet these needs.
  6. Accurately collects and enters all demographic and insurance information from prospective client and/or referral sources into business software.  Verifies eligibility and benefits on the Department of Social Services Website and Availity or other web sites for commercial providers.
  7. Processes direct referrals from professionals while paying close attention to medical acuity, psychiatric stability, and prescribed medications.
  8. Performs additional responsibilities and /or special projects as assigned by supervisor.



  • Associate's degree or higher
  • Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC), Bachelor’s degree in Human Services, Social Work or related field is preferred

  • 2-4 years of customer service experience
  • Experience working in a mental health/substance treatment facility

  • LPN license is highly preferred
