Position Summary:

The Director of Operations will lead the Orthopedic Institute program at Backus Hospital in service delivery, program development, growth management, financial performance and quality improvement in alignment with the mission and goals of Hartford HealthCare. The Director will build cohesive relationships with internal and external customers to ensure patient satisfaction, quality improvement, employee engagement and clinical integration are met.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Provide strategic planning and operational leadership, develops and manages the total joint and spine programs. Serve as a key stakeholder in facility planning/project management, physician recruitment, engagement, experience and retention
  • Provide oversight of the Orthopedic Institute Advance Practice Provider Team. Serve as a resource to Nurse and Department Managers within and across service lines
  • Lead clinical care redesigns through the Medical Advisory Board, assuring standards of care are met throughout the continuum of care
  • Develop and implement patient experience, engagement and education platforms. Cultivates community outreach and educational programs
  • Serve as a liaison within the Orthopedic Institute between William Backus Hospital, Hartford Healthcare and the affiliated orthopedic private practices to assure operations, clinical practice, and patient satisfaction expectations are met. Actively participates on service, departmental, hospital and system wide committees and councils
  • Monitor compliance with regulatory, accrediting, and hospital policy for patient services and environmental and personnel safety. Provide oversight on the development and maintenance of accreditations and awards of distinction for the program (Joint commission, insurers)
  • Provide clinical support as a Physician Assistant (First Assisting, Rounding, Consults, Inpatient patient management)
  • Coach staff providing feedback and constructive critique of work, facilitate the development of their problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Manage third party vendors and contracts. Support marketing initiatives in partnership with the marketing department and third party agencies. Oversee bundle payment and payer programs.  Manage clinical trial opportunities in conjunction with HHC IRB.
  • Complete an operational budget that reflects required workload, forecasted units of service, and programmatic changes. Monitor budget expenditures as reflected in accurate, objective variance analysis. Develop, prioritize, and defend a capital equipment budget in collaboration with the service’s medical chair and managers

Qualifications

  • Masters of Health Sciences and graduation from an accredited Physician Assistant Program is required. Masters of Business Administration is preferred

  • Five plus years of inpatient orthopedic experience
  • Five plus years of progressive administrative or leadership experience
  • Current certification as a Physician Assistant by the NCCPA
  • Current license in good standing to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Connecticut

  • Highly effective analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills

  • Visible leader with excellent interpersonal communication skills who relates well with all levels of the organization

  • A creative, forward thinking leader with the proven ability to engage, coach and mentor direct reports, colleagues and other key stakeholders

  • Ability to develop and lead programs that align with the organization strategic direction
