This new Center, located in Westport, CT is dedicated to the holistic and minimally invasive treatment of spinal ailments and ongoing spine health.  The Psychologist will be an integral and collaborative team member joining a practice that will include on-site neurological care (neurosurgery and neurology), interventional pain management, physiatry, physical therapy, nutrition counseling including a demonstration kitchen, and integrative medicine.  Interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration will be frequent.

Duties will include providing evidence-based psychological interventions (individual and group) to adults with spine-related pain and comorbid psychosocial issues.  The Psychologist will be involved in program development, as well as clinical and outcome research as desired by the practice.  Pre-surgical psychological evaluations of patients under consideration for spinal cord stimulator treatment may be an additional focus of practice.  Opportunities may exist for clinical supervision of psychology and other trainees, or providing educational experiences to interdisciplinary professionals within the clinic.

The preferred candidate will have experience in pain management and cognitive-behavioral treatments for a number of emotional disorders.  It is also ideal that the candidate have some experience with health psychology/behavioral medicine interventions (e.g., behavioral treatment of insomnia, medical anxiety, behavioral weight loss, smoking cessation, somatoform disorders, etc.).  The setting is focused on spine care and includes a primarily interventional pain clinic, however, issues of abuse, dependence, aberrant prescription drug use, or challenges in reducing doses of opioid medication are not uncommon clinical concerns.  It is also, therefore, ideal that the candidate have some experience with diagnosis and treatment of substance abuse disorders, especially opioid use disorders.  The medical providers of the Spine Wellness Center place a very high value on mental health treatment and a psychological perspective offered by a collaborating and co-located psychologist.  The position will be administratively housed at the Institute of Living in Hartford, which offers rich and varied professional opportunities in a diverse community.
