Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 122-bed, general acute care community hospital located in Torrington, Connecticut, that serves as a regional health care resource for the 100,000 residents of Litchfield County and Northwest Connecticut.  CHH offers personalized attention from an expert team of caregivers and physicians that utilize advanced technology and clinical partnerships in a convenient, safe and comfortable patient environment.

 

POSITION SUMMARY/PURPOSE

Provides timely and accurate receipt and distribution of supplies throughout Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. Appropriate documentation is maintained that assures accurate online inventories, and supports account payables with accurate information for invoicing. Receives, stores and issues materials, supplies and equipment.  Takes inventories and assists in compiling stock records.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1.   Stocks warehouse items and marks identifying information such as catalog number, date received and other data on items.

  1. Keeps floor stock supply area filled and counted correctly and neatly on a daily basis.

  2. Delivers, fills and posts inventory requisitions on a daily basis.

2.   Fills and delivers requisitioned orders to appropriate departments and refers related problems to Cart Coordinator to Inventory Manager.

  1. Inventories and fills complete compliments of floor stock within the eight hour shift.

  2. Reports stock outs/discrepancies and other inventory related issues to the Inventory Specialist daily.

3.   Fills and delivers floor stock to appropriate departments and maintains them.

  1. Requisitions must be filled and delivered to appropriate area within 24 hours of its receipt.

  2. Problems encountered within this requisition process must be reported to the Inventory specialist at the time that they are discovered; (i.e., stock outs, no patient charge etc.)

4.   Assists in maintaining daily and periodic inventories.

  1. Completes assigned cycle counts and yearly inventories.

5.   Maintains storage area in orderly manner as directed.

  1. Completes scheduled cleaning and auditing assignments on a daily basis.

  2. Shipping & receiving hospital items.

  3. Loads or unloads material, equipment, merchandise or supplies from automobiles, trucks or other vehicles.  Unpacks, sorts, receives and inspects incoming material against purchase orders and specifications for correctness, quantity, type and defects.  Contacts Materials Management for return of defective material.  Ensures that all supplies and equipment received are processed and distributed in a timely manner.

  4. Performs receiving and storeroom operations ensuring timely and accurate distribution of materials and proper storage of stock.  Directs to Maintenance or Biomedical engineer new equipment for assembly or safety checks before delivering to requisitioning department.  Completes associated purchase orders and delivers to appropriate areas while obtaining signature.

  5. Receives requests for supplies, selects stock from inventory, and loads distribution vehicles.  Distributes supplies to designated areas.  Compares computer balances with periodic sampling checks of physical inventory and makes adjustments in inventory balances. Organizes and maintains records pertinent to stock levels, supply quantities issued, and other data; recommends modifications to quotas or inventories.

  6. Packs materials to be shipped, prepares and maintains shipping records, makes up bills of lading and posts weight and shipping charges and other documentation for shipment of materials, parts, finished goods and related items.  Participates in the assembling and shipping of outgoing merchandise or material.  Coordinates with materials management all items returned to vendor for credit or items to be disposed.

  7. Keeps records of damaged or defective items; discrepancies in quantities and weights; and time, date, quantity, source and destination of materials received or shipped. Maintains department records, reports, and files as required.

  8. Assists other departments in day-to-day ordering procedures and acts as an advisor/resource to all departments with regards to supply, equipment and service needs.

  9. Performs other assigned tasks to assist and support management, co-workers, hospital staff and others, as appropriate.

7.   Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, specific job‑related hazards.

 

8.  Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.

Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Attire is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment. Wears proper identification while on duty. Maintains confidentiality of all hospital and patient information at all times, as observed by peers and management. Reports to work on time and meets acceptable standard for attendance. Attends a minimum of two staff meetings, reads minutes for all staff meetings, and participates in committees as required.

 

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Duties involve clerical skills equivalent to a high school education. High school diploma required.

 

EXPERIENCE   

Minimum at least one year but less than 3 years of job related experience. Inventory and/or storeroom experience required.
