Position Summary:

The Director of Nursing Professional Development & Magnet Program will provide leadership, planning and coordination of programs to drive continual improvement toward goals, cultivating a professional nursing practice environment in collaboration with the Vice President of Patient Care Services and Nursing Leadership team.  The Director will serve as the project leader for the implementation, evaluation, and ongoing compliance with the ANCC’s Magnet Recognition Program at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Oversees the Magnet Accreditation Program to include writing the Magnet document, completing the Demographic Data Collection Tool (DDCT), document submission and preparing for and managing the Magnet site visit. Coordinates submission of annual monitoring reports and all aspects of the re-designation process

  • Serves as an ambassador of the Magnet program internally and externally, employing a variety of communication strategies

  • Assists in analysis and interpretation of the National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators (NDNQI) for patient outcomes and nurse satisfaction and fostering of interdisciplinary, collaborative relationships within nursing services

  • Leads the Staff Education department, which includes coordinating the Nurse Educators and planning and implementing clinical practice and professional development opportunities

  • Oversees Nursing policy and procedures, Nursing Orientation and Nurse Residency Program, as well as clinical academic affiliations for Nursing and serves as the liaison with local universities

  • Directs change efforts in collaboration with nurse leaders and staff utilizing the ANCC Magnet framework of excellence to create and implement innovative staff engagement, systems and processes

  • Identifies cutting edge nursing quality indicators, developmental needs, performance improvement, research initiatives and other activities that sustain and advance a culture of excellence

  • Facilitates shared governance/shared decision making within nursing services and consults on professional practice activities across the organization


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required. Master's Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field or Doctorate Degree in Nursing is preferred
  • Five plus years of experience as a registered nurse in a health care setting such as a hospital or clinic
  • Three plus years in a managerial position in a health care setting such as a hospital or clinic
  • Three years of performance improvement experience including experience with NDNQI, specialized skills and knowledge requirements is preferred
  • Experience working in Magnet designated hospital and/or Magnet Program Director and/or Magnet Appraiser role
  • Current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical integration and evidence based practice and standard of care
  • Strong professional, organizational and interpersonal skills required for effective and creative leadership in working with all levels of the organization including physicians, committees, senior management and trustees as well as patients and their families
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to execute with limited information and ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and delegate accordingly
  • Builds effective networks to communicate the organization’s mission and goals. Listens effectively and probes for new ideas
  • In all endeavors is guided by the needs of the patients, creating a partnership that is effective across the continuum of care
