Position Summary:


The Magnet Project Director, in partnership with the Vice President of Patient Care Services,  will be responsible for the strategic and tactical development, implementation, sustainability, and maintenance of the ANCC Magnet Recognition Program and designation for the Hartford Region.   The Project Director will lead designated Magnet initiatives promoting clinical innovation, research and evidence based practices, integrating knowledge and creating a spirit of inquiry and a culture that supports the bedside scientist.  The Project Director provides leadership and oversight to promote nursing excellence and coordination of Hartford Region’s Nursing shared governance, professional development and the advancement of patient care excellence through research, evidence based practice and quality improvements. 

 

Key Accountabilities: 

  • Oversee the Magnet Accreditation Program as the Magnet Project Director to include writing the Magnet document, submitting document and preparing for and managing the Magnet site visit and coordinate submission of annual monitoring reports and all aspects of the re-designation process
  • Conduct assessment analysis of nursing department readiness for Magnet application, identify criteria that are met and collaborate with VPN and NEC to develop strategies to meet all criteria
  • Provide information and program development related to the 5 Magnet Components:  Transformational leadership, structural empowerment, exemplary professional practice, new knowledge and innovation, and quality results
  • Generate requested reports and provide analysis of data relative to patient care, safety, financial, regulatory and other database systems as appropriate
  • Completion of the Demographic Data Collection Tool (DDCT) and manages all NDNQI data collection, nurse satisfaction survey and other quality data as designated organizational NDNQI site and survey Coordinator
  • Ensure analysis of nurse sensitive patient satisfaction outcome data; compare unit and organizational performance and pursue ways to improve outcomes
  • Oversees Nursing Shared Governance councils
  • Responsible for educating Magnet Champions from inpatient and ambulatory care areas, support the development of the Magnet culture
  • Be a leader, mentor and coach for nurses at all levels in their understanding and practical application of Magnet standards; and a liaison between nursing leadership, inter-professional colleagues and the community
  • Contribute to strategic initiatives through data management and analysis for driving actionable nursing and organizational outcomes
  • Coordinate the preparation, editing and publication of the Magnet document and oversee campus preparation for ANCC site visit.   Manage interim monitoring between Magnet reaccreditation cycles.  Advise and support HHC entities seeking Magnet status
  • Act as liaison to Administration, Patient Care Services, Medical Staff and direct staff caregivers with strong consensus building and inter-professional skills
  • In support of attaining (Capital Magnet) status, provide leadership along with the interdisciplinary team in designing innovative ways to attain new levels of excellence; high value, high performing nursing practice environment in every care setting.  Assist in providing meaningful and measurable gains in quality imperatives and empirical outcomes in partnership with other members of the health care team. Assist in further developing our positive healthy work environment including the empowerment of nursing and improved outcomes for nurses and patients
  • Participate in performance improvement activities by acting as a team member, leader, coach and facilitator. Establish processes for staff engagement and professional growth opportunities within Patient Care Services
  • Work effectively as a leader with customers to provide quality service to hospital units through communication, cooperation and collaboration


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is required. Master's Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field or Doctorate Degree in Nursing is preferred
  • Five plus years of experience as a registered nurse in a health care setting such as a hospital or clinic. Three plus years in a managerial position is preferred
  • Three years of performance improvement experience including experience with NDNQI, specialized skills and knowledge requirements is preferred
  • Having authored articles in professional publications and presented at national or regional level meetings
  • Experience working in Magnet designated hospital and/or Magnet Project Director and/or Magnet Appraiser role
  • Current Registered Nurse license in Connecticut
  • Demonstrated knowledge of clinical integration and evidence based practice and standard of care.
  • Strong professional, organizational and interpersonal skills required for effective and creative leadership in working with all levels of the organization including physicians, committees, senior management and trustees as well as patients and their families
  • Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills with the ability to execute with limited information and ambiguity
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and delegate accordingly
  • Builds effective networks to communicate the organization’s mission and goals. Listens effectively and probes for new ideas
  • In all endeavors is guided by the needs of the patients, creating a partnership that is effective across the continuum of care
