The Ayer Neuroscience Institute offers a unique integration between neurology, neuroscience and neurosurgery, to give patients a comprehensive approach to treating and/or managing their symptoms and living a healthier, more balanced life. Treating more patients than any other center in the region, our team of experts includes specialists in stroke, neuromuscular, neurosurgery and general neurology. Our physicians practice some of the most advanced treatments available in the nation, including minimally invasive brain and spine surgery, at-home seizure monitoring and pain management. Together, we remain at the forefront of neurological medicine and committed to excellence in education, treatment, research, and care of patients with neurological disorders and injuries. We offer an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to care, coupled with state-of-the-art technology and techniques that enable us to provide every patient the best possible outcome

 

 

Position Summary:


The Director ensures the achievement of the Ayer Neuroscience Institute’s core strategies and operating results by providing collaborative leadership across the Hartford Healthcare (HHC) system.  The Director provides leadership to the Institute which oversees the full continuum of care for Neurosciences for the region. The Director has the foundation of a team-oriented philosophy in concert with H3W leadership behaviors, HHC values, lean standard work and strategies in a highly reliable organization, dovetailed with support from not only the acute care organization but the strength and growth of the Institute. As a champion of the Hartford Healthcare culture, the Director espouses, practices and reinforces the safety culture expectations which are a top priority in leadership decision-making.

 

 

Key Accountabilities:

 

  • Facilitates continuous performance improvement and business development by encouraging innovation, supporting reasonable risk-taking, being open to new ideas and keeping up to date in the function. 
  • Provide sponsorship to the Ayer Neuroscience Institute by identifying the resources required to achieve operating results and advocating for them during resource allocation. Responsible for lean strategies of performance improvement from a unit and continuum standpoint
  • Provides financial management expertise to the Institute for strategic planning, budgeting, analysis and decision-making.  Acts as a liaison with other hospital facilities leadership to meet the financial management information needs of the Institute.
  • Prepares and/or examines various financial and non-financial reports and analyzes the impact of actual and/or proposed operational changes in meeting HHC and the Institute’s initiatives. Coordinates the preparation and monitoring of the Institute budget and oversees the monthly report of financial performance as well as other regulatory and benchmarking reports.
  • Links the function to other organization functions by personally participating in work groups and teams, by encouraging staff to participate in cross-organization activities, and by integrating with other functions in order to contribute to the achievement of Hospital-wide results.  Organizes the collection, interpretation and use of credible, accurate and consistent data related to the structure, process and outcomes.
  • Serves as a role model to staff by continuously demonstrating the organization's H3W leadership behaviors, values and principles, creating and maintaining effective, positive customer service relationships by identifying customers and their needs, ensuring that needs are met, responding  appropriately to difficult interactions, and educating the staff on the importance of quality customer service
  • Facilitates the effective utilization of resources (people, financial, material) by understanding how the service links to the organization's core strategies and translating the linkage into operational priorities.  When applicable, articulates to others a clear rationale for research based decisions and actions.  Provide strategic planning, oversight and program planning and development driven via a project based process
  • Maintains the organization's reputation as a patient-centered care organization by linking the function to patient-centered principles and communicating the linkage to employees through specific objectives

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field and Master's Degree in Health Administration, Nursing or similar focus area required.
  • Five plus years of progressive leadership.  Demonstrated track record as an effective administrator who has created change, in multiple areas of Neuroscience in an acute care academic setting
  • Previous experience working with LEAN principles to engineer positive outcome
  • Certification in Nursing or Neuroscience clinical practice preferred
  • The ability to navigate a matrix reporting relationship of the Neuroscience continuum
  • The ability to work with diverse groups of physicians (voluntary/full-time, teaching/nonteaching) and appreciate their contributions to the strategic direction of an organization
  • Intellectually facile, will have the ability to be conceptually creative, grasp large amounts of information quickly, and articulate conclusions in a clear manner
  • Visible leader with excellent interpersonal communication skills who relates well with all levels of the organization
