For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
JOB SUMMARY
Registered nurse serving as a collaborative resource and program leader for patients and the palliative team. Exhibits leadership skills, is a resource and collaborates with the team to help develop a palliative program that serves this population of patients in the east region. Is responsible for meeting with team members and Medical Director of palliative care, helping define workflows, assisting with determining patient’s goals of care, engaging with families, collaborating with hospice, care management and other staff. Embodies innovative thinking identifying opportunities for a regional program and collaboration of system initiatives related to palliative care. Reports to Director of Care Transitions.
Qualifications
Education: BSN or degree in relevant health care field; MSN preferred
Experience: 3 years of health care experience; 3-5 years managerial experience
Licensure, Certification, Registration: CT Registered Nurse Licensure required; Certification in palliative/oncology field preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use) Must possess expert level of knowledge in departmental field of concentration. Ability to effectively monitor and manage the effectiveness of departmental function and programs. Demonstrated ability to develop short and long term operational and strategic plans. Broad understanding of business strategies and implementation processes. Demonstrated leadership abilities. Ability to communicate technical or complex information and present effective and persuasive discussions with all levels of the organization. Also has the ability to represent WWBH to external agencies and organizations. Ability to manage time and meet deadlines in a stressful work environment. Ability to handle multiple priorities.
