We all know someone who has struggled with addiction, and the toll that alcohol and drugs can take. That’s why the  Hartford HealthCare Behavioral Health Network and Rushford will be opening The Ridge Recovery Center, a first of its kind facility in Windham, CT. Located on 55 secluded acres off Route 32,  The Ridge will combine evidence-based treatment with wellness activities and amenities in a private, professional setting that includes private rooms, larger gathering areas, private meeting rooms, a comfortable dining room, fitness gym, and office space. The site also includes peaceful outdoor spaces and walking trails ideal for those in recovery who want to exercise, do yoga or go bird watching, just to name a few activities.

Job Summary

Assists Director of Nursing with supervision of Nursing staff and Medical Navigator staff. Provides nursing support and coverage for the Adult and the Child & Adolescent Residential Programs as directed by the Director of Nursing. Handles day-to-day oversight of Silver St nursing as well as Medical Navigators. Provides on-call coverage for nursing/medical emergencies and rotating on-call for Residential Services. Assists Director of Nursing in the overall oversight and day-to-day process of physical admissions for Residential Services at Silver St. Assists Director of Nursing with the oversight and training process for supervised self-administration medication process for clinical assistants. Assists Director of Nursing with the on-boarding process of new hires. Facilitates nursing meetings as directed by Director of Nursing. Attends manager meetings as required. Attends other meetings in Director of Nursing’s absence as assigned. Provides back-up coverage for Director of Nursing in their absence.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Assesses and appropriately addresses the medical needs of clients from any level of care, including potential admissions, and facility referrals as defined in the RN scope of practice. 
  2. In coordination with Director of Nursing, via appropriate oversight of scheduling, ensures 24-hour/7-day-week nursing coverage without the use of non-Rushford nursing staff.  Provides shift coverage during times of crisis and will deliver effective nursing care calling upon medical and psychiatric resources, as needed.
  3. Assists Director of Nursing with oversight of regulatory compliance for Rushford Nursing and works collaboratively with Manager and Staff to correct any deficiencies.
  4. Assist with orientation/training for new nursing and Medical Navigator staff. Assists with and/or facilitates current staff trainings, in-services and staff meetings. Provides assistance with cross-training and competencies.
  5. Assist in making sure clients are consistently referred to the appropriate level of care based on presentation, assessment, and benefit structure in a collaborative manner with the payor source.
  6. Provides back up coverage for the Director of Nursing. Attends other meetings in Nurse Manager’s absence as assigned. Attends Manager Meetings as required.
  7. Provides oversight of Medical Navigators to ensure timely progression of clients through the admissions process. Assists Nurse Manager in the overall oversight and day-to-day process of physical admissions for Residential Services at Silver St.
  8. Ensures customers’ needs are met, responding appropriately to difficult interactions, and practicing principles of quality customer service. 
  9. Assist in monitoring of trends in Riskonnect event reporter and preparation of reports to Quality Committee.
  10. Participates in H3W workgroup and other agency committees as assigned.
  11. Assists in preparation of appropriate medical documentation to meet regulatory requirements of licensing and third party agencies and assists with oversight of the completion of the same for all nursing and Medical Navigator staff assignments.
  12. Ensures that the covering MD/PA/APRN is notified of all pertinent information in a timely fashion and acts as a liaison for admission process with facility referrals.
  13. Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing, such as, but not limited to, Kronos (payroll), Riskonnects (event reporter), scheduling (nursing & navigators), and chart audits for compliance with regulatory agencies.
  14. Provides rotating on-call coverage for nursing/medical emergencies and rotating on-call for Residential Services.
  15. Assists Director of Nursing with supervision of Silver St nursing staff and Medical Navigator staff.
  16. Provides nursing support and coverage for the Adult and the Child & Adolescent Residential Programs as directed by the Director of Nursing.

Qualifications

  • Valid CT RN license.
  • Minimum of Associate's degree in nursing. Bachelor's degree in nursing preferred. 
  • CPR & AED certified within six months of employment. 
  • Accredited certification in Addictions Nursing (CARN) or Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing (or is actively pursuing credentialing) is preferred.
  • Minimum of one years' nursing experience in Psychiatric or Substance Abuse Treatment preferred. 
  •  Minimum of three to five years’ nursing experience is preferred.
  • Experience as a CNA, Mental Health Worker, or other related field is desirable for newly graduated nurses.
