Job Summary

The position will be working in the Middletown community running the Middletown Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition. Candidates with prior Prevention experience and/or a Certified Prevention Professional Certificate are preferred as are individuals with public health or macro level social work such as policy or community health focus. This position includes engaging with individuals from the 12 sectors to ensure appropriate representation in the coalition. This position is responsible for carrying out the goals and objectives identified in the grant workplan for the coalition which include data collection and evidenced based decision making in the areas of vaping, underage drinking, and other substance use and healthy decisions. Ideal candidate will have public speaking experience, be able to interact and engage with the 12 community sectors and lead the coalition to successful completion of the plan.  Candidate will also be working directly with middle and high school schools and students and other community groups and agencies to promote a community based approach for the prevention work. General hours are Monday through Friday hours, however, there are evening and weekend events that are hosted by prevention or being attended by prevention and the ideal candidate would be expected to flex hours to participate. This may include tabling at events, presentations, community events, grant events etc.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Execute programs (drugs, mental health, vaping, etc.), including direct service to provide school and/or community-based services per grant objectives
  2. Implement policies consistent with the State Standards for Prevention in collaboration with other Prevention staff members
  3. Maintain records in accordance with Program requirements (e.g. monthly statistical reports, performance-based prevention criteria, pre and post-testing, and group topics)
  4. Design and implement programs and activities that foster prevention Best Practices
  5. Attend various community organization events and meetings to partner with them to promote prevention activities and achieve grant goals
  6. Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services field (Education, social work, counseling, public policy, psychology etc).
  • Master’s Degree in human services field (Education, social work, counseling, public policy, psychology etc) is preferred.
  • Two years of experience working with families, clients, and/or vulnerable populations in the community.
  • Two years of  experience working in a behavioral health environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work with a variety of age and cultural groups.
