St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. Job Summary: 

Under the leadership of the Director of Clinical Operations, the Nurse Manager is a Registered Nurse responsible and accountable for the 24-hour planning, organizing, directing and evaluation of clinical, administrative and operational activities for their assigned department.  The scope of responsibilities includes clinical and safety practices of nurses and other members of the clinical team, professional nursing practice, leadership and professional growth, human resource management, financial performance, system coordination and clinical performance (safety, patient experience and quality) improvement.

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Ensures departmental compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Assists with hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating nurse colleagues.
  • Provides leadership and direction to nursing staff and has 24-hour accountability ensuring all quality, financial, and service benchmarks, including compliance with environmental care standards are met.
  • Monitors and adheres to budget(s). Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.
  • Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services in the department(s) managed.
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services.
  • Reflects ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice (most recent year) and ANA Code of Ethics (most recent year)
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education

  • ·       Bachelor of Science in Nursing

Preferred Education

  • Master of Science Nursing

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in clinical practice. 
  • Management, supervisory, or charge RN experience with demonstrated success in area of specialty.

Licensure, Certification, Registration

  • Registered Nurse State of CT.
  • Certified BLS provider credentialed form the American Heart Association (AHA)

  • ·        Specialized knowledge in area of specialty principles, practices and trends. 
  • ·        Strong ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others.

  • ·        Strong ability to influence, lead, and delegate.
  • ·        Basic financial budget knowledge.
  • ·        Strong understanding of safety, security and joint commission standards as it pertains

  • ·        Strong ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • ·        Strong organizational and planning abilities.
  • ·        Result oriented, ability to achieve targets within provided timeframe.
  • ·        Excellent written and oral communications.
