St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital.
Job Summary
The Operating Room Aid (ORA) works under the direct supervision of the OR Nurse Manager and/or other medical staff as designated. This role is responsible for the preparation and breakdown of the operating room (OR). This position also assists in transporting patients to and from the OR, assembling surgical beds, and stocking supplies. Additionally, the ORA has frequent exposure to moderate to heavy physical activity such as pushing, pulling, lifting, twisting, reaching and bending requiring exertions of 20-50 lbs. of force. Constant mobility must be expected as part of the position.
Responsibilities:
Moves patients using proper body mechanics and assists appropriate personnel in this task.
Handles specimens properly using knowledge and understanding of O.R. specimen policy.
Participates in activities designed to increase knowledge and contributes to the productivity and efficient operation of the department. Seeks ways to sustain and improve one's skills on a continual basis.
