For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
JOB SUMMARY Under the direction of the Hyperbaric Medicine Center Supervisor, administers hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to patients as prescribed by the Medical Director, Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center or hyperbaric physician; operates and maintains the HBOT chambers and associated systems and equipment. Assists and delivers patient care appropriate for the level of his/her medical training.
Qualifications
Education: High School graduate or equivalent.
Experience: Minimum 2 years experience as an EMT, DMT, RRT, or as a Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT). Qualification as a U.S. Navy Deep-Sea Diving Medical Technician or Special Operations Technician will be considered as equivalent.
License and Certification: Successful completion of NBDHMT/UHMS approved Hyperbaric Medicine Introductory course within 90 days of hire. Licensed EMT, DMT, RRT, or LPN or is a Certified Hyperbaric Technician (CHT). BLS certification required. ACLS or Cardiac certification preferred.
Must be prepared to sit for NBDHMT Certified Hyperbaric Technologist examination and attain certification as a CHT, after working 480 hours within Center, or two (2) years, whichever comes first. Current CHT certification preferred.
