Are you ready to start your RN career, but need experience to reach your goal of working on a Med/Surg, Oncology, Orthopedic floor, Emergency Department, or Critical Care unit? Backus Hospital offers employment opportunities designed to bridge the gap between nursing school training and actual nursing practice in an acute-care setting.

The Backus Hospital Nurse Residency Partnership builds on the previous academic knowledge by providing in-depth learning through clinical immersion, simulation training and classroom-style activities while orienting to your position.

Nurse Residents will be hired directly to a specialty area where they will receive focused clinical education. The positions offered vary based on the needs of the hospital. In addition to clinical immersion on the units, Nurse Residents meet weekly in a classroom format to share experiences and receive additional education and training.

Following successful completion of the Clinical Immersion phase, Nurse Residents will transition to their staff position. Professional development opportunities will be provided during the first year of employment through seminars, simulations, and monthly check-in meetings.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate of a school of nursing, BSN preferred
Experience: New RN Graduate or less than one year experience in an acute care setting as an RN. Previous acute care experience or experience in another health field preferred.
License and Certification:
• Active State of CT RN license OR new graduates may start under Graduate Nurse status (per the State of CT DPH guidelines) but MUST successfully complete first NCLEX testing no later than 60 days from nurse resident program start date or 90 days from your graduation date, whichever occurs first.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) upon hire.
• Ability to obtain and maintain department specific certifications.

By completing the Nurse Residency Program, newly-licensed nurses are able to competently and safely manage a full patient assignment with confidence, and will be well-positioned to become future leaders in the nursing profession.
