Job Summary

The Youth Peer Advocate will assist the Prevention & Wellness Coordinator in substances of abuse (underage drinking, etc.) prevention efforts set by the Prevention in CT Communities grant and approved by The Dept. of Mental Health and Addiction Services. Will attend coalition events, act as a positive role model and provide input on current substance use and mental health concerns among their peers. This individual will also help to increase awareness of Prevention strategies and offer a youth perspective of our prevention initiatives.

Job Responisibilites

  1. Assist the Prevention Program Coordinator as the Youth Peer Advocate of the Prevention in Connecticut Communities (PCC) grant.
  2. Collect input from peers on current substance use and mental health concerns
  3. Help develop innovative ways to approach prevention work
  4. Attend Youth Peer Advocate meetings as a representative of Middletown
  5. Assist in the creative development of event flyers
  6. Attend coalition meetings and events
  7. Perform other related duties as required

Qualifications

  • Currently in High School or High School equivalent
  • College student preferred
  • Community involvement in public health or related initiatives preferred
  • Fluent in English
  • Bilingual is preferred
  • Knowledge of Prevention, leadership qualities and eagerness to learn
