Work where every moment matters.

Every day, over 30,000 Hartford HealthCare colleagues come to work with one thing in common: Pride in what we do, knowing every moment matters here. We invite you to become part of Connecticut’s most comprehensive healthcare network.

The Division of Health Psychology at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is pleased to announce a position opening for a full-time behavioral health clinician (LCSW, PhD, PsyD) to support the Hartford HealthCare Ayer Neuroscience Institute’s Spine Wellness Center. The Spine Wellness Center, located in Westport, CT is staffed by an interdisciplinary treatment team dedicated to providing innovative, comprehensive and holistic care to people coping with spine ailments.  The Spine Wellness Center offers a one-stop approach to care for the whole person with the goal of achieving ongoing spine health.

Job Summary

The behavioral health clinician is an integral and collaborative team member joining a practice that includes on-site neurological care (neurosurgery and neurology), interventional pain management, physiatry, physical therapy, exercise physiology, nutrition counseling including a demonstration kitchen, and integrative medicine (i.e. reiki, acupuncture, massage, yoga). Interdisciplinary consultation and collaboration is frequent. The setting includes a primarily interventional pain clinic, so the clinician should have experience with the provision of evidence-based pain management techniques.  The behavioral health clinician should also be comfortable providing treatment for co-occurring mood disorders, as well as strategies to promote health behavior change for issues like insomnia, obesity, and nicotine dependence.  The clinician should be comfortable with the assessment of substance abuse and dependence, particularly for opioid use disorders, and referring to appropriate treatment resources. Further, patients often present with a history of complex trauma and subscribing to a trauma-informed approach to care is optimal.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Providing brief evidence-based psychological interventions (individual and group) to adults with chronic pain and psychological comorbidities (i.e. depression, anxiety, grief, adjustment, insomnia).
  2. Provide psychoeducation in pain neuroscience (i.e. neuroplasticity).
  3. Independent maintenance of treatment records and timely documentation.
  4. Effective utilization of screening measures and assessment tools.
  5. Data management including tracking symptoms and treatment outcomes.
  6. Participating in monthly psychology team meetings and journal club presentations.
  7. Opportunities may exist to provide evaluations for spinal cord stimulator placement.
  8. Opportunities may exist for clinical supervision of psychology trainees and providing educational experiences to interdisciplinary professionals within the clinic.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD.) or Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from an APA-accredited institution.
  • If Doctoral level, APA-approved internship in Clinical Psychology or Clinical Health Psychology.
  • Licensed to practice in the State of Connecticut.

  • Self-directed and capable of working independently.
