Position Summary:
In this highly visible role, the Director of Strategic Planning will oversee the evaluation, planning, and implementation of all initiatives contributing to the strategic growth of Hartford HealthCare’s East Region. The Director will work closely with the East Region’s Cabinet and Executive Leadership Team, as well as senior leadership within Hartford HealthCare’s Strategic Planning Department. The Director will be embedded within the region and will be the Strategic Planning Department’s subject matter expert for all items related to the region’s growth, business planning, strategic development, and community involvement. Furthermore, a portion of this role will have a connection to the Strategic Planning’s system support team and will assist on major projects and initiatives.
Key Accountabilities:
Facilitates the strategic planning function and cascades annual & long-term balanced scorecard priorities
Directs planning activities to ensure strategies, structures, and operational models support the mission and vision of Hartford HealthCare
Oversees Business Unit Review, dashboard reporting, and weekly access calls
Educates others about the value of disciplined planning, applying relevant trends, environmental and competitive assessments and benchmarking against best practices and other planning related tools
Provides counsel and support to senior management and physician leadership through data and market trends
Obtains, interprets, shares and applies knowledge of significant trends, including service line developments, regulatory changes, consumer demographics, payer rates, and local & national market activities. Must be able to proactively decipher these trends, determine potential impact, and work with Hartford HealthCare and the East Region leadership to inform strategic planning and business development opportunities
Collaborates with the East Region’s Senior Vice President, Vice Presidents and Directors to identify, evaluate and develop new business opportunities to grow the base of business and increase market share as well as assist with analyzing new markets and new services
Assists in developing business plans and integrating new business lines and partnerships as well as evaluating the performance of existing programs and services, the current location of facilities and project demand for hospital and ambulatory services to include in broader planning initiatives
Measures current status against business objectives, especially growth and profitability, and identifies new opportunities for potential mergers, acquisitions, or affiliations
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, healthcare administration, business administration, or another related field required. MBA, MPH, MHA or similar is preferred
Five plus years of experience as an integral participant in strategic planning and business development and/or communications resulting in a comprehensive enterprise-wide strategic planning process. Health care experience preferred, though other service-oriented industry experience may be considered
Experience working in a large matrix organization with a complex integrated service delivery system in a competitive market, preferably multi-institutional and multi-market
Demonstrated technical strength in core business areas of business development, data analysis, financial analysis, benchmarking, marketing, finance, strategy and process improvement is required
Demonstrated experience in working in partnership with leaders including CEOs, Vice Presidents and Physicians as well as senior professionals in financial planning, management engineering, communications, marketing, public relations and quality
Proven effectiveness in developing and implementing strategic plans and business cases with measurable results that enhance the organization’s overall awareness, image and market share
Proven experience with developing new markets and identifying opportunities to increase market share within the organization. Strong track record of successful program development
Demonstrated organization, facilitation, communication and presentation skills
Lead by influence through a matrix organization as opposed to line management authority. Build relationships with all levels of staff
