St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital.

 Job description:

Provides leadership oversight for a (non-/limited technical) department of the clinical laboratory which may include multiple departments and more than one location. Works closely with Laboratory Director, Medical Director, and other leadership team to formulate section activities, modify, and implement procedures and policies, and maintain adherence to all regulatory (TJC, CAP, CLIA, etc.) regulations.  Participates in the planning and execution of department projects and service goals.  Assists the Manager in preparation and adherence to the departmental budgets (salary, non-salary, revenue) and is accountable to managing to their budget in each area.

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Three (3) years’ experience in area of oversight with demonstrated leadership qualities
  • National Certification (NCCT or ASCP) or equivalent in related area of oversight (if applicable)
  • Proficient computer skills (e.g. email, Microsoft WORD, EXCEL, POWER POINT)
  • Effective communication skills [written, verbal and listening].
  • Ability to learn and/or be proficient in multiple department-specific functions, systems, and/or processes
  • Ability to achieve personal, coordinated care by supporting staff to provide customer, patient, client centric service.
  • Ability to act quickly to resolve customer, patient, client problems or complaints.
  • Ability to work collaboratively at all levels; initiates and maintains positive relationships towards a common end.
  • Capable of providing an outstanding customer service experience for patients and staff.
  • Ability to proactively manage change to minimize resistance and maximize engagement
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks/priorities; ability to prioritize daily to maintain a safe laboratory environment and to meet accreditation standards.
  • Ability to adapt HHC”s H3W leadership behaviors and model/demonstrate these on a daily basis.
  • Ability to be flexible as required to adapt to laboratory needs as related to testing and scheduling
