The Strategy & Planning Specialist provides significant support to the entire Strategic Planning department to ensure HHC is successful in achieving its Mission, Vision, and Values. The Strategy & Planning Specialist supports the department through research, data analysis, regional and institute support, and support in the development of Certificate of Need filings and other regulatory reporting. Furthermore, the role also supports senior and executive leadership as well as partnering divisions including HHC Innovation and HHC Marketing.

This highly analytical position reports to the Manager of Strategic Planning and will work closely with HHC Senior and Executive leadership in driving strategic initiatives throughout the health system. The right candidate will demonstrate a proven ability and willingness to interpret data and present findings to project stakeholders. The Strategy and Planning Specialist will play a key role in system planning initiatives and supports Lean daily management activities. Success in this role will provide an opportunity to hone key financial and strategic planning skills necessary to assessing an evolving healthcare landscape, while working within a team dedicated to developing early careerists.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. System Strategy Support:
  1. Provide support to the Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer, Senior Directors, and Directors by producing reports, data analysis, market intel, and research. Develop and maintain profiles of industry competitors and potential partners, as well as provide key insights and takeaways that will be used by senior leadership. Participates in the development of the annual Environmental Assessment. Researches, accumulates and evaluates all pertinent clinical, operational, financial and market data regarding the feasibility of new service offerings or the expansion of existing service lines. Researches, accumulates and presents relevant market and competitor information in support of M&A activity.
  2. May provide specific support to an Institute or Region through the creation of monthly Business Unit Review decks, which contain key performance indicators of the business area, attending cabinet meetings, and running weekly access calls.
  1. Ad Hoc Data Reporting Analysis
    1. Supports the entire Strategic Planning Department on ad hoc analysis and reports that will be utilized to support senior level decision-making regarding strategic initiatives. Will utilizes CHIME database, Qlikview, Tableau, Microsoft Excel, and various other data sources to analyze and monitor market activity.
  2. National and State Market Research and Regulatory Surveys
  1. Assists in completion of various system-wide survey projects across the health system. These surveys include, for example, the American Hospital Association Annual Survey (which is used for the US News and World Report Rankings), Modern Healthcare, and various surveys with the Office of Health Care Access, Bureau of the Census and CT Department of Public Health.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervision limited to consultants and administrative fellows assigned to the

department.  Provides work direction to administrative staff and external consultants.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in health care administration, business administration, finance, accounting, or other related field is preferred.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint.

Ability to exercise independent judgment, creativity and initiative.

Knowledge of healthcare industry and the changing healthcare environment.

Ability to influence decision making, team player.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Knowledge of healthcare industry and the changing healthcare environment.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Access and PowerPoint.

Ability to exercise independent judgment, creativity and initiative.

Experience with Lean management principals a plus.
