Job Summary

The IOL Staff Psychologist provides psychology services and consultation to children and adolescents who are admitted to the inpatient unit and their families/caregivers. The Staff Psychologist will collaborate with multiple interdisciplinary teams on patient care and will provide staff education and support as needed. The Staff Psychologist must be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills necessary to provide culturally-sensitive, trauma-informed, high-quality, evidence-based, care to children and adolescents. This individual must have competency in child development and experience in psycho-diagnostic testing, individual behavior plans, and treatment plan design to meet each patient's and family's specific needs. We are seeking an individual with excellent interpersonal skills, innovative ideas, a passion for working within an interdisciplinary team model, and who is dedicated to delivering service excellence.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Provide clinical services as part of the Inpatient Psychology Consultation Service which includes but is not limited to: individual therapy, family therapy, diagnostic assessment, risk assessment, in-depth case formulation, and treatment planning.
  2. Develop and leads inpatient psychotherapy groups.
  3. Provide leadership around milieu management on the inpatient unit which includes collaborating with all disciplines as well as clinical contact with all patients.
  4. Coordination and management of Individual Behavior Plans (IBP) and Patient Support Plans in consultation with the treatment teams.
  5. Assist with crisis intervention and patient de-escalation.
  6. Provide psychological screening and testing as appropriate in collaboration with the Psychological Testing Service.
  7. Assist in the development and implementation of staff training and clinical programming.
  8. Participate in training Department of Psychiatry Residents and Fellows as well as Psychology Practicum students, Interns and/or Post-Doctoral Fellows.
  9. Participate in clinical, research, and educational missions of the department.
  10. Participate in any department quality initiatives or performance improvement programs.
  11. Demonstrate sensitivity to the special needs of all patients, families, caregivers, and health professions colleagues with respect to race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, gender, gender identity, ability status, religion, political beliefs, socioeconomic status, and any other factors related to systemic oppression.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD.) or Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from an APA accredited institution
  • One year APA approved internship in Clinical Psychology
  • Completion of one year post internship supervisory experience
  • Licensed or license eligible to practice Psychology in the State of Connecticut
  • This individual must have competency in child development and experience in psycho-diagnostic testing, individual behavior plans, and treatment plan design to meet each patient's and family's specific needs
