Position Summary:

The Senior Director of Nursing Education & Professional Development will direct and innovate system programs to promote and strengthen the team members’ transitions to practice and professional development across the entire care continuum. Using evidence-based practices, the Senior Director will analyze, implement, and evaluate clinical learning initiatives to include orientation, onboarding, new graduate residency and regulatory requirements and will promote professional competence and growth of team members and resources across the system in close partnership with site leadership and in collaboration with the interprofessional teams as needed.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Directs the development, coordination, and evaluation of education and professional development activities for team members across the entire care continuum in alignment with the system nursing strategic plan
  • Advances the clinical profession by contributing to the professional development of others and supporting lifelong learning. Uses critical thinking and analytical skills, including the integration of the best available into practice and generating new knowledge through scientific inquiry and research
  • Analyzes system issues, trends, and supporting data to understand needs and validate gaps and determine the specific knowledge, skills, or opportunity in each situation
  • Advises, consults, and influences the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of material, learning environments, and teaching strategies appropriate to the situation, learners’ development level, learning needs, readiness, ability to learn, and culture
  • Directs and supports the coordination, development, and system standardization of transition to practice, professional development, and clinical education initiatives
  • Develops and implements innovative approaches to ensure role competence for nursing team members at all levels and care settings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree is required. One degree must be in nursing
  • Three plus years of progressive leadership is required
  • Five plus years of Nursing Practice and/or Nursing Professional Development experience is required
  • Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut or the ability to obtain
  • Knowledgeable in principles of adult learning theory and capable of creative planning, coordinating, and overseeing education and orientation programs through in-person and on-line methods to maximize learning application of that learning
  • Demonstrated evidence of strong interpersonal and communications skills, effective critical thinking, and the ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks
  • Ability to lead through influence and boundary span. Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent presentation and group facilitation skills
  • Ability to manage large system projects, including LEAN, A3, and Six Sigma concepts
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and resilient with changing environments and priorities
