Position Summary:
The Regional Director will be responsible for the advancement of nursing, allied health and patient education and clinical practice for both Backus Hospital and Windham Hospital. In collaboration with senior leadership, the Regional Director serves as a consultant, change agent and facilitator in assessing learning needs and in planning, designing, implementing, and evaluating educational opportunities to meet the East Region’s goals and benchmarks. The Regional Director will provide the leadership needed to implement evidence-based practice for our patients’ safety and well-being by creating an environment that promotes professional practice and strives for excellence in all aspects of clinical interdisciplinary care.
Key Accountabilities:
Directs Nursing Professional Practice, serving as an internal consultant for nursing by assessing, planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the quality of nursing care and nursing practice
Utilizing instructional techniques and adult learning principles, develops and implements job aids, performance criteria, clinical competencies and interactive practical experiences to support staff development based on state regulations and identified educational need.
Collaborates with nursing executives in the East region and across HHC to develop, and implement strategic plans to support practice within Patient Care Services
Utilizes the concepts of participative management to plan, innovate, coordinate, direct and evaluate nursing and allied health services to ensure that care is provided within the philosophy and objectives as well as policies and procedures of the hospital/institute and to ensure that nursing care standards are maintained across the continuum
Demonstrates fiscal responsibility in the allocation of available resources to promote efficient, effective, safe and compassionate care. These activities and processes are consistent with the strategic, operational and budgetary goals approved by the VP of Patient Care Services
Defines educational needs and standards and works to create clinical practice resources to serve the needs of the nursing staff in all patient care settings. In partnership with regional and system nursing leadership develops orientation programs and clinical practicums that are consistent with the practice setting
Ensures that programs and educational offerings are in place to facilitate the ability of staff to progress along the nursing professional development career path and to enhance retention of skilled nursing staff
Creates unique partnerships with local universities to promote the recruitment and development of qualified professional nursing staff. Collaboration with universities to create opportunities to promote interdisciplinary practicums for graduate and undergraduate students
Creates a relationship with nursing informatics/care connect to continually identify opportunities for improved efficiencies and improvement in quality and safety for the bedside providers
Collaborates in the identification of gaps in processes and procedures that are inconsistent with current standards and best practices. Ensures appropriate representation and engagement of nursing leadership on shared governance councils, policy & procedure and quality work groups
Collaborating with clinical leadership, ensures the appropriate and cost effective selection and use of equipment, instruments and supplies based on best practices
Keeps informed of trends and developments in nursing and other health professions, including new approaches, standards, and methodologies. Pursues a continuing program of self-development in order to maintain strength and broaden own concepts, philosophies, and abilities
Seeks out opportunities for professional growth through organizational & community affiliations, professional societies and academic institutions
Qualifications
Bachelor’s and Master's degrees are required. At least one degree must be in Nursing
Current license in good standing to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Connecticut
Five plus years of leadership experience
Five plus years of experience within nursing education, practice or professional development
Highly effective analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills
Intellectually facile, will have the ability to be conceptually creative, grasp large amounts of information quickly, and articulate conclusions in a clear manner
Visible leader with excellent interpersonal communication skills who relates well with all levels of the organization
A creative, forward thinking leader with the proven ability to engage, coach and mentor direct reports, colleagues and other key stakeholders
Strong communications skills required - both written and verbal
