The Department of Psychology at the Institute of Living/Hartford Hospital is pleased to announce a position opening for Program Manager to oversee our Department of Neuropsychology and Psychological Testing. The role has administrative, educational, scholarship, and clinical responsibilities and reports to the Director of Psychology.

Job Summary

The Neuropsychology Program Manager is responsible for overseeing the IOL neuropsychology and psychological testing clinical services, including management of psychologists and other employees in the department as well as oversight of the APPCN-member neuropsychology fellowship program. The Program Manager works collaboratively with the Director of Psychology, Chair of Psychiatry, and VP of Operations to support and develop the overall mission and aims of the Neuropsychology Department and fellowship program, and to provide clinical and administrative oversight of all departmental functions. The Program Manager will develop, maintain, and participate in the department’s clinical, educational, administrative, and scholarship efforts and will work collaboratively with other hospital departments in which neuropsychologists and trainees provide clinical services.  The Program Manager will also be expected to provide clinical services in one or more IOL patient care settings.

Program Summary

The Department of Neuropsychology and Psychological Testing enjoys active involvement in the hospital’s rich history of training and provision of excellent care. All staff psychologists participate in the training and development of externs, pre-doctoral interns, and post-doctoral fellows through involvement in the Institute of Living’s APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship and supervision of the neuropsychology fellows in our APPCN-member fellowship.

Departmental psychologists participate in clinical care, research, training, and multidisciplinary collaboration at multiple sites within Hartford HealthCare, including the Chase Family Movement Disorders Center, Memory Care Center, Institute of Living (outpatient and inpatient psychiatry), and Hartford Hospital (medical inpatient and inpatient rehabilitation). Our psychological testing service is led by a dedicated psychologist who specializes in psychological assessment, with several departmental neuropsychologists also providing psychological testing services when applicable. Training and development are a prominent emphasis within the department. Each training year we have several externs/practicum students from local colleges and universities, two postdoctoral fellows, and are regularly involved in the training of pre-doctoral interns.

Job Responsibilities

  • Oversees all clinical, operational, research, and training within the department and ensures a high level of clinical care and professionalism is maintained.
  • Works collaboratively with IOL and Hartford Healthcare leaders to develop a strategic vision for the department.
  • Oversees staff recruitment, supervision, training, and evaluation. Utilizes conflict resolution and corrective action as needed. Collaborates with Director of Psychology regarding performance issues in supervisory staff.
  • Works collaboratively with key stakeholders (e.g., Ayer Neuroscience Institute, Hartford Hospital) to develop and execute strategic plans regarding the provision of neuropsychological assessment services throughout relevant clinical service areas of the healthcare system.
  • Supervises, mentors, and teaches department trainees. Participates in intern and fellow educational activities.
  • Leads key activities of the post-doctoral fellowship program trainee recruitment and selection, trainee orientation, curriculum review and annual program evaluation, mentorship of trainees and supervisors, trainee evaluation and remediation, and others activities as indicated.
  • Works collaboratively with the Director of Psychology and the Psychology Training Director to oversee and provide clinical supervision for the pre-doctoral internship assessment rotation.
  • Actively engages with the Association of Postdoctoral Programs in Clinical Neuropsychology (APPCN) and stays current with current resources/ recommendations and emerging trends. Regularly updates directories and websites relevant to the fellowship program. Responsible for preparation of all APPCN accreditation materials and for regular review of program components to ensure compliance with standards of APPCN membership.
  • Prepares and periodically reviews and revises neuropsychology fellowship program documents (i.e., policies, procedures, brochures, evaluations).
  • Provides clinical care in one or more IOL clinical settings.

  • Doctorate of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD.) or Doctorate in Psychology (Psy.D.) from an APA accredited institution
  • Completion of a two-year neuropsychology fellowship
  • Board certified (preferred) or board eligible for American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) certification in clinical neuropsychology
  • Licensed to practice psychology in the state of Connecticut
  • Strong interest in post-graduate education
