The Nurse Manager of the Ambulatory Surgical Unit (ASU) and Endoscopy Department is responsible for the functionality of two distinct units. Working under the supervision of the Director of Perioperative services, the Nurse Manager directs the operations of both departments to ensure safety and efficiency is maintained. The Nurse Manager is expected to maintain a high level of communication, demonstrate effective leadership, and show clinical expertise while supporting the staff on both units. They will work collaboratively with both of the unit’s educators and charge nurses towards the maintenance and betterment of both departments.

 

Job Summary:

  • Manages activities, workflow and nursing resources of ASU and endoscopy.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Oversight of day-to-day operations.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Conducts hiring, directing, development and evaluation of staff.
  • Identifies and resolves issues affecting the delivery of patient care services for the assigned unit(s).
  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services to both units
  • Monitors and adheres to budget. Approves or monitors expenditures, purchases, and other actions to ensure compliance with budget guidelines.
  • Collaborates with the nurse educator to develop programs designed to assist the staff nurse in the progression of novice to expert in the practice of nursing.
  • Systematically evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and services. Evaluates factors related to safety, outcomes, effectiveness, cost and social impact when developing and implementing practice innovations.
  • Provides leadership and direction to nursing unit staff.
  • Ensures all quality, financial, and service benchmarks as well as compliance with environmental care standards are met.
  • Creation of staff schedules and staff time keeping
  • Other Duties as assigned
  • Reflects ANA Scope and Standards of Nursing Practice as well as utilizes AORN guidelines.

Qualifications

 Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse credentialed from the Connecticut Department of Public Health obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

  • BSN Required, MSN Preferred.
  • Must have two years related clinical operating room experience as well as demonstrated leadership experience.
  • Previous management, Charge RN, or Nurse Educator experience required.

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated ability to scrub on basic surgical procedures.
