St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital.


Position Summary: Implements and supervises phase II and phaseIII cardiac rehabilitation program.

Position Responsibilities:

  1. Provides patient testing and assessment before and after rehabilitation.
  2. Plans and teaches exercise therapy for patients utilizing test data, patient status and current medication regimen. Monitors patient's response and revises plan accordingly.
  3. Recognizes contraindications and abnormal patient responses to exercise. Responds appropriately to all situations including exercise cessation and referral to medical professionals.
  4. Provides exercise information for patients, peers and the community which may include public speaking and education classes.
  5. Collaborates with physician regarding the exercise prescription for each patient. Maintains in-depth knowledge of monitoring and arrhythmia identification.
  6. Preparation  of report on individual patient to appropriate physician. Appropriately charts progress in Medical Records. Maintains appropriate documentation of patient care.
  7. Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of the departmental equipment. Maintains equipment in optimal functioning condition in accordance with manufactures guidelines. provide staff with educational in-service for proper and safe use of equipment.
  8. Other Duties as assigned

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration (Required):

  • Certified BLS and ACLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association(AHA) obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date(obtain prior to employment is preferred).
  • Certified BLS and ACLS Provider credentialed from the American Red Cross obtained within 2 Months (60 days) of hire date or job transfer date (obtain prior to employment is preferred).

Education: B.S. in Exercise Physiology / Science or related degree is required. M.S. preferred

Work Experience: Basic monitor interpretation skills and must successfully pass dysrhythmia class within 3 months of hire. ACSM Clinical Certification preferred.
