Job Summary: 

The Regional Director is responsible for all activities for the OR/PACU/SPD/ASU/ENDO and Preadmission Testing (PAT) at all Central Region campuses.  The Regional Director is responsible for overall growth, patient care management, operations, block utilization, access, human resources, capital, infection prevention, quality, finances and budget.  Collaborates with HHC Institutes, Anesthesia, Surgical Leaders, Supply Chain, Quality, IP, System Peri-op Council and others as needed to provide the perioperative scope of patient care.  Demonstrates our values and corporate compliance by supporting the stated philosophy, goals and objectives of the Department of Perioperative Services, the central region and Hartford Healthcare.


  1. Resource Utilization:
    • Committed to access and growth of peri-op service lines
      • Uses financial and benchmark data to allocate resources and justify variances accordingly.
      • Utilizes time, materials and resources effectively in carrying out job responsibilities.  Strictly adheres to policies related to corporate compliance.
      • Ensures that those under his/her direct supervision incorporate accountability and responsibility for efficient utilization of products, supplies, equipment, financial resources and time. 
      • Identifies methods and approaches to improve operations, increase access, decrease waste and increase the quality of patient care. 
      • Participates in the evaluation, selection and implementation of all new products, technologies and systems.
      • Develops and submits a yearly operating and capital budget. Participates in development of the annual budgets of affected departments and the evaluation of variances to that budget utilizing a variety of resources. 
      • Works collaboratively with Patient Billing to correct inaccuracies.  Audits patient charge system to insure adherence to Corporate Compliance guidelines.

2.Customer/Physician Relations:

  • Demonstrates an advanced knowledge of customer service initiatives and serves as a role model for staff members.
  • Dedicated to exceeding Institutes, surgeons, anesthesiologists, patients and families expectations.
  • Is responsible for the delivery of culturally sensitive, courteous and competent care to all patients.
  • Promotes collaborative relationships with surgeons in an environment that endorses rules and regulations set forth by the departments of surgery and the hospital. 
  • Maintains confidentiality and serves as a role model in all confidentiality issues.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills with patients, visitors, employees and physicians.
  • Follows through promptly on patient/customer/physician inquiries, requests, problems or informational needs.
  • Maintains professional relationships with all departments inside the hospital and other appropriate community related groups or activities.

3. Patient Care:

  • Thoroughly understands and is committed to philosophy of the delivery of the highest quality and safest patient care at HHC. 
  • Oversees a comprehensive plan of care based on recommended standards set by AORN, ASPAN and NICHSPDP. 
  • Provides necessary resources for staff to meet commitments on hospital or departmental committees.
  • Dedicated to continual performance improvement initiatives and monitors activities through participation in departmental, hospital, regional and system performance improvement committees.
  • Works closely with the perioperative educators to facilitate the orientation of new employees and insure continued staff education and participation in required competencies. Monitors continuing education needs of the departments. 
  • Is a member of the OR/ASU committee, the OR management group, and other hospital and departmental committees as necessary. 
  • Ensures cross coverage of all the perioperative units. 

4.  Employee Relations:

  • Responsible for performance management for all employees.
  • Promotes open, honest bilateral communication, sets clear expectations and provides authentic feedback.
  • Works effectively in stressful situations.
  • Assists staff in maintaining a positive work environment by setting and maintaining group norms.
  • Sets work priorities to meet the objectives of the individual teams and the organization.  Plans and organizes activities effectively in all departments.
  • Facilitates timely and effective communication between scheduling, admitting, PAT and any other interfacing departments. 


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Current Connecticut Registered Nursing license
  • Baccalaureate Degree in health related field.
  • MBA or MHA preferred


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Computer literate


    • Minimum 3-5 years progressive perioperative setting experience.
    • Director experience preferred.
    • Demonstrated advanced clinical and cultural competency.
