The Pharmacy Department at Backus consists of Pharmacy Technicians and Pharmacists who work together in a collaborative team environment meeting the needs of our patients.
 

The Medication Access Liaison will work as a part of the system’s Pharmacy Department and will be responsible for improving patient access to medications. The Medication Access Liaison will be primarily responsible for the following tasks:

  • Proactively identify patients’ insurance coverage and understand gaps in insurance coverage
  • Navigating both manufacturer and non-profit programs to reduce patient out-of-pocket costs
  • Identifying opportunities for improving reimbursement from payers, and documentation of activities on all applicable software platforms including the electronic health record.
  • Partner with pharmacists, social workers, care team members, and patient resources to identify and refer patients to the Medication Assistance Program (MAP). 

Qualifications

Education: 

High School Diploma or equivalent

Experience: 

  • Three years’ experience as a pharmacy technician or patient financial services representative
  • Prior experience in working with medical or prescription reimbursement programs.

Licensure, Certification, Registration: 

  • Pharmacy technician registration with Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection required by March 31st of each year
  • Nationally certified as a pharmacy technician from a recognized certification board
