POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager Enterprise Data Systems will manage and lead database, storage and backup technical service operations teams using industry standards and best practices in deployment, optimization and maintenance of storage and backup infrastructure supporting core internal computing systems and services in a 24x7x365 operational environment for critical environments. The position includes supporting the growing Storage farm environment, ensuring all structured data (databases) are managed appropriately and that the business' data is protected by regular backups. The manager will also partner and build strong working relationships with technical architects, engineers and business technology teams to define standards, processes, performance requirements and business needs; oversee infrastructure to ensure best practices are in place and the infrastructure is optimized for performance and reliability; provide leadership and guidance in managing, monitoring, reporting and documenting systems; ensure that objectives including SLAs are met and business expectations are exceeded. Work with technical operational managers and vendors supporting delivery services; oversee and drive improvements based on industry standards and best practices; work with senior management in providing briefings and reports on performance and service delivery; and manage special technology projects and initiatives as assigned.

Additionally, this role will be regarded as a technical expert responsible for representing IS during project discussions at their early conception. Specifically, working with the various business unit representatives at the hospital and gathering their requirements for new upcoming initiatives and translating those requirements into technical solutions. These solutions must meet the objectives of the business while ensuring compliance with IS standards of security and manageability.

The Manager Enterprise Data Systems will be an active member of the IT Change Advisory Board, the IT Configuration Control Board, and the IT Incident Review Board.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Manage and lead database, storage and backup technical service operations teams using industry standards and best practices in deployment, optimization and maintenance of databases, storage and backup infrastructure supporting core internal computing systems and services in a 24x7x365 operational environment for critical environments in addition to supporting the growing Storage farm environment

Partner and build strong working relationships with technical architects, engineers and business technology teams to define standards, processes, performance requirements and business needs

Provide leadership and guidance in managing, monitoring, reporting and documenting systems and ensure that objectives including SLAs are met and business expectations are exceeded

Review any SLA breaches with investigation and corrective action to improve service delivery to stated goals Review and report trend data to ensure stability, integrity, and efficient operations of services to meet service levels Ensure that systems, processes and methodologies are followed to provide effective service delivery

Lead meetings regarding support services strategy and deployment

Liaise with business partners for service improvements, changes and escalations Work with technical operational managers and vendors supporting delivery services Oversee and drive improvements based on industry standards and best practices

Work with senior management in providing briefings and reports on performance and service delivery; and manage special technology projects and initiatives as assigned

Due to the necessary technical management duties of this position in a 24/7 operation, candidate may be required to be on call and/or work various shifts such as weekends and/or nights/evenings

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

BS degree or a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a related discipline and managerial experience.

Extensive operational experience in implementing/ maintaining backup solutions in a large enterprise environment and integrating backups into the technical strategy for system recovery

Previous experience working with various 3rd party vendors (Symantec, Quantum, IBM, EMC, etc) Previous experience in diverse multi-system environment

Excellent problem-solving skills; and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines Understanding of Tape Library, VTL, Data De-duplication

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Excellent analytic, organization, presentation, customer service and facilitation skills
