The Hospital of Central Connecticut is an acute-care community teaching hospital, we provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in general medicine and surgery, as well as a wide variety of specialties. The Colleague Health Department at The Hospital of Central Connecticut serves employees at both The New Britain General and Bradley Memorial Campus.  The Colleague Health Nurse is responsible for coordinating and administering employee occupational health services which includes but is not limited to:

  • Follows standard medical practices and standing orders in the Department of Colleague Health, including delivery of patient care.
  • Performs PPD placement and reading.  In the case of a positive PPD, evaluates the employee for active or latent TB infection in consultation with the physician.
  • Maintains the Employee Health Program Policy in compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
  • Oversee COVID Vaccine compliance, exposures, and administration of COVID vaccine
  • Assures a safe and healthy work environment by regularly assessing work areas for safety, cleanliness, health hazards and infection control policies and practices.
  • Prepares on-going statistical and activity reports on employee exposures, OSHA reportable injuries and Colleague Health utilization for purposes of identifying problem areas and trends and to maintain compliance with State and Federal reporting regulations.
  • Maintains on-going communication and appropriate interface as needed with the Director of Employee Health, the Hospital Epidemiologist and the Infection Control RN to ensure timely and quality management of employee health and exposure issues.
  • Ensures appropriate and timely referral of employees to EAP and provides EAP Counselor with occupational health expertise.
  • Ensures that employees are returned to work in a timely manner and are working within the restrictions outlined by their physician and/or Employee Health.
  • Evaluates work related injuries related to exposures (blood borne pathogen, chemical, infectious or latex).
  • Collaborates with management to provide limited duty return-to-work for employees with work restrictions.
  • Ensures immediate response to employee blood or other infectious disease exposures so that employees are tested and/or treated within the specific time frames for such exposures.
  • Administers ongoing hepatitis B surveillance and vaccine programs to employees in identified high-risk areas.
  • Works with Infection Control in the administration and coordination with OSHA/NIOSH/CDC regulations and recommendations for control of TB.
  • Performs fit testing and medical evaluations for respirator use, N-95 and PAPR training.
  • Administers the Influenza Vaccine program on an annual basis to employees, volunteers and hospital personnel.
  • Educates, evaluates, and monitors employees concerning latex allergy and acts as a latex allergy resource while promoting latex reduction in the institution.


Minimum Requirements:
• Current Connecticut RN license

•BSN strongly preferred

• Experience in Employee or Occupational Health preferred.
• Previous experience in a physician or multi-practitioner office preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience required
