Job Schedule: Full Time
Standard Hours: 40
Job Shift: Shift 3
Shift Details: Night shift; every other Monday, every other Thursday every other weekend.

For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.

 

JOB SUMMARY
Receives and relays incoming and outgoing telephone calls for the facility. Provides directory information, transfers calls as appropriate. Makes general and emergency announcements over the facility’s PA system. Utilizes in-house and Long Range paging systems. Performs code notification and central alarm monitoring for the campus. Dispatches Security personnel.

Qualifications

Education: High school education or equivalent required.

Experience: One (1) year experience in public safety field. Prior Public Service Dispatcher/Call Center or Public Dispatch experience preferred.

License and Certification: Public safety training desirable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
Excellent customer service skills. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and communicate effectively in order to provide information and instruction. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians and managers. Ability to operate a PBX console effectively to perform duties. Demonstrates the ability to be organized and flexible in stressful situations.

Work is performed in accordance with instructions and procedures. Ability to react and perform under emergency situations, exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality at all times. Requires the ability to take appropriate action in response to changes, circumstances and problems.
