The Marketing & Communications Manager is responsible for developing, managing, executing and measuring marketing and internal/external communications strategies for the East Region of Hartford HealthCare. The East Region consists of Backus Hospital and Windham Hospital Responsibilities include but, are not limited to the following:

  • Under the direction of the regional/entity Senior Director of Communications:
    • Develops and conducts marketing initiatives in support of assigned service lines and internal clients.
    • Provides marketing support for strategic community outreach projects, such as service line-focused community lectures and educational programs, collaborating with community outreach coordinators, the call center and other internal or external resources as necessary.
  • Under the direction of the system Communications, Marketing and Branding team:
    • Works with external advertising agencies and internal resources, as appropriate, to develop marketing concepts and materials.
    • Works with system Digital team to create, deploy and track digital strategies for marketing and communications projects.
  • Monitors marketing activity and develops measurement tools to track results of marketing activity; makes recommendations regarding the success or failure of plans and promotions.
  • Identifies and brings forward opportunities for growth, improved visibility, and brand recognition, and customer service improvement as they relate to marketing.
  • Stays up-to-date on competitive activity, marketing trends and regional and national marketing programs related to assigned marketing area.
  • Creates strategies and action plans, fulfills implementation and results evaluation, including establishing and monitoring countermeasures as necessary.
  • Oversees website updates and ensures web pages are ready for marketing campaigns
  • Identifies opportunities to take advantage of system marketing and communications platforms such as media integrations, e-newsletters, text-messages, podcasts and social media
  • Utilizes data to assess the market, understand the competitive landscape and successfully market new products and services



  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, marketing, marketing communications or a related field.
  • Extensive communications, marketing or strategic planning experience in lieu of academic credentials may be considered.


  • Three years of progressive experience in planning, marketing, communications, market research or a health-related discipline.
  • Demonstrated strength in communicating to multiple audiences: internal (including physicians and providers), external (including customers and potential customers), and experience in dealing with media of all types on breaking stories that may involve complex topics.
