The creation of the HHC System Support Office recognizes the work of a large and growing group of employees whose responsibilities are continually evolving so that we and our departments now work on behalf of the system as a whole, rather than a single member organization.

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the design, implementation, support and maintenance of all functions of relational database systems. You will be responsible for the following: database access, methods and time, device allocations, validation checks, organization, security, documentation, and statistical methodology. In this role you will monitor overall standards and procedures and assist in integrating various systems. You will also consult with users, determine requirements and recommend database establishment and utilization.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Responsible for the design, implementation, support and maintenance of all functions of relational database systems
  • Responsible for the following: database access, methods and time, device allocations, validation checks, organization, security, documentation, and statistical methodology
  • Monitor overall standards and procedures and assist in integrating various systems
  • Consult with users, determine requirements and recommend database establishment and utilization
  • Provide database administration for mission-critical custom and packaged database software
  • Design storage strategies around backup and recovery for complex database environments, physical structures, and specialized database applications/systems
  • Uphold enterprise policy guidelines and recommend new/improved guidelines
  • Partner with project teams and interact with customers to find solutions for projects and operational issues for existing and proposed databases
  • Act as a liaison serving as primary point of contact between application business segments and database administrators
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and ability to perform in all of the basic database management skills of database administration, Web connectivity, physical structure, overall architecture, and database analysis
  • Provide standardization and consistency across environments
  • Ensure a stable and secure database environment
  • Implement and monitor database functionality to ensure stable environments
  • Identify and initiate resolutions to user problems and concerns associated with database server equipment (hardware and software)
  • Anticipate customer needs and proactively develop solutions to meet them
  • Serve as a key resource on complex and/or critical issues
  • Supports help desk personnel in troubleshooting.
  • Protects and maintains user data at all times.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field and three (3) years of related experience
  • At least 6 years’ experience administering databases (Oracle, Cache, and/or MS SQL Server) in support of a multi-tiered ERP environment
  • Experience writing SQL queries, generating reports and writing scripts to automate processes
  • Knowledge of, and materially demonstrable experience implementing and configuring Oracle Database, 12c and later
  • Experience implementing and configuring Linux server, especially Red Hat Enterprise is a plus
  • Current, professional-level certification in database administration is highly desirable, e.g., Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional
  • Proactively investigate and suggest better uses of current technologies that help with gaining efficiencies or saving money
  • Understanding of and adherence to Oracle’s Best-Practices for database administration and security
  • Conceptual understanding of High Availability and the Oracle Maximum Availability Architecture
  • Develop, implement, and maintain processes and procedures for database administration on production and non-production servers
  • Develop scripts and/or jobs to perform routine database administration tasks
  • Development of metrics, reports, and alerts in OEM Grid Control
  • Manage backup and recovery of databases
  • Manage implementation of database patches CPUs and PSUs, as well as PeopleSoft Required-for-Install patches
  • Assist PeopleSoft Administrators, Patch/Fix and other teams in planning, tuning, upgrade, and build efforts
  • In depth experience performing database tuning and performance analysis
  • Assist in the development of policies for data management pertaining to security, auditability, and privacy, and ensure these policies are complied with
  • Work as an on-call DBA for added support on a rotating schedule
  • OEM installation, configuration, and maintenance experience is a plus
  • In-depth knowledge of administration or conceptual understanding of Cache Database technologies:
    • Cache in an Epic environment
    • Cache DB mirroring
    • Cache DB tuning
    • Cache/IRIS DB upgrades
  • In-depth knowledge of administration or conceptual understanding of Oracle Database technologies:
    • Clusterware
    • Automated Storage Management
    • Real Application Clusters
    • Flash Recovery Area
    • DataGuard
    • Flashback
    • Recovery Manager
    • Transparent Application Failover
  • Due to sensitive security and financial responsibilities, must successfully pass Credit/Financial screenings
  • Work experience may substitute for minimum education requirement
  • Proficient experience with DBMS, installation, maintenance, and support
  • Experience with DBMS file systems
  • The knowledge and ability to perform in all of the basic database management skills of database administration
    • Strong troubleshooting skills required

    • Availability to work nights and weekends during (un)planned outages and other special circumstances, with 24/7 accountability.

ORGANIZATIONAL COMPETENCIES

  • Attends all mandatory education and training programs (including department specific) and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety and regulatory compliance as well as department safety and specific job-related hazards.
  • Maintains all required CEUs for certifications and licensure.
  • Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
  • Attire is professional, neat, clean, and appropriate for the work environment, according to the HHC and/or Department Appearance Policy and a high standard of personal cleanliness is maintained.
  • Reports to work on time and meets acceptable standard for attendance, based upon the department attendance policy.
