St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport has more than 3,200 employees. It includes a 473-bed community teaching hospital, a 76-bed inpatient psychiatric facility in Westport, a large multispecialty provider group, and special needs services for adults and children. St. Vincent’s is the first hospital in Fairfield County to be integrated into the Hartford HealthCare network, and is the system’s second-largest hospital.

 

Job Summary:
Performs a variety of routine and complex diagnostic tests on blood and body fluids as prescribed by healthcare providers. All procedures are performed according to department procedures and protocols and within a single lab section. Requires capable organizing skills for processing large volumes of tests. Utilizes knowledge of medical theories and procedures as required within the Laboratory. Ability to work in a computerized Laboratory.

Qualifications

Education: B.S. in one of the chemical, physical, or biological sciences. 
Experience: Zero (0) to six (6) months experience. 
License and Certification: Obtain MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification within one year of date of hire. 


PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS 

Education: B.S. in Medical Technology is preferred. 
Experience: One (1)+ years experience is preferred. 
License and Certification: MT (ASCP) or equivalent certification upon hire. 


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use). 
Ability to read and understand oral and written material and effectively communicate technical or complex information. Works efficiently and organizes time appropriately. The ability to prioritize daily work assignments. Computer knowledge to order to enter/retrieve data. Able to assist in the implementation of processes/procedures to enhance laboratory services.

Requires high level of analytical ability in order to gather, analyze and interpret information from various sources.
