Description

Under the direction of the Registered Nurse (RN), the PCT will assist in the delivery of care to patients and their family. The PCT fulfills these duties to contribute to the continuity and quality of care that fosters the best interest and well being of the patient and family.
Qualifications
Education: High school graduate or equivalent and appropriate licensure, certification or additional education required (see License and Certification). Experience: None.
License and Certification: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) in State of Connecticut or, presently enrolled in a Registered Nurse preparatory program having completed one semester of a Medical/Surgical clinical rotation, or 50 clinical hours in an LPN program; or previous licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Ability to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support (BLS) within 90 days.
PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS
Education: Associates Degree.
Experience: Experience in an acute care facility or equivalent, phlebotomy experience, electrocardiogram recording, computer and clerical experience preferred.
License and Certification: Graduate of a Patient Care Technician (PCT) program.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use). Working knowledge of basic patient care procedures. Strong customer service orientation. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with patients, departments, employees, physicians and managers. Must be organized, flexible and a team player. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Ability to handle multiple priorities. Demonstrates initiative in all job related activities. Basic computer knowledge in order to enter/retrieve data.
PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING
Requires the ability to recognize problem situations and refer them to the appropriate staff member. Work is performed in accordance with instructions and procedures, but incumbents must organize the work and set priorities. Requires the ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with some direction. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
