For more than 118 years, Backus Hospital has been the primary source of healthcare services for much of Eastern Connecticut. We are home to the only trauma center in New London and Windham counties, and are the only area hospital with LIFE STAR helicopter services. We deliver and coordinate a continuum of high-quality healthcare with the goal of improving the health of our communities.
In addition to our 200+ bed hospital, the Backus Health System includes numerous off-site locations, including several health centers, Backus Home Health Care and the Backus Outpatient Care Center, also in Norwich. Backus Health Centers are located in Montville, Ledyard, Colchester, Norwich, and North Stonington, and additional labs for blood draws are available throughout the region.
Position Description
Hours range from 7am-7pm, primarily Mon-Fri with occasional Saturdays.
Coverage at other offices may be required.
Patient Service Representative (PSR) coordinates daily operational workflow to support an excellent customer experience. Daily work includes greeting customers, answering phones, scheduling, registration, authorization, maintaining inventory and a safe work environment in all areas of the clinic, and providing instruction/education per practices and expectations of organization and department. Routine utilization of hospital systems and Microsoft Office to support clinic and leadership team.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required, associate's degree preferred.
Basic math and computer skills required.
Customer service experience required.
One (1) year medical clerical work experience highly preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be organized, flexible and a team player. Demonstrates the ability to work efficiently and organize time appropriately in order to accomplish daily work. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities while using leadership behaviors.
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions, and effectively communicate information. Accurate grammar, spelling and punctuation skills necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians, members of leadership team, patients and families.
Problem Solving and Decision Making
Requires the ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction; ability to make independent decisions in order to provide an excellent customer experience. Requires high level of analytical ability in order to gather, synthesize and interpret information from various sources. Ability to use core values and HRO safety principles to make decisions; ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
