Position Summary:

The OR Radiologic Technologist performs radiographic imaging in the operating room during intra-operative procedures. Operates specialized imaging equipment such as O-Arm, c-arms and mini c-arms and performs double c-arm cases.  Has knowledge of imaging equipment connectivity with intraoperative navigation and robotic devices and troubleshoots device connection with imaging equipment. Collaborates with surgeons and other OR staff to ensure radiology guidance is available and appropriate for specific OR cases.  Performs imaging for ERCP/GI exams and cardiac ICU catheter placements as needed.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Operates imaging equipment during intra-operative procedures, to include C-arms, O-Arm, mini c-arms, portable x-ray units.  Selects appropriate exposure factors to produce high quality diagnostic images while maintaining minimal dose to the patient.
  • Ensures appropriate radiation safety measures are utilized during OR imaging procedures and educates staff as needed on radiation safety practices when necessary.
  • Performs imaging in other areas of Radiology and the hospital as needed:
  • Performs Radiologic examinations on identified patients according to department procedures and protocols by positioning patients, and operating radiographic equipment while utilizing the assessment of patient age and diagnosis to produce high quality images.  Performs fluoroscopic procedures as needed. 
  • Minimizes radiation to the patient, self and others by practicing appropriate radiation protection techniques, restricting radiation field size, using patient and personnel shielding devices and utilizing low dose exposure factors. Adheres to radiation safety standards in compliance with regulatory agencies and hospital policies.
  • Obtains all relevant patient information.
  • Explain procedures to patients and addresses their concerns. Utilizes ALARA principals and appropriate infection control techniques to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:
 Required Credential(s):

  • Licensed Radiology Technician specializing in Radiology credentialed from the Connecticut Department of Public Health obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.
  • Registered Radiology Technician specializing in Radiology credentialed from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date.

Education:

  • Associates in Radiology: Minimum Degree Required

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of completed experience as a Radiologic Technologist
  • Successful completion of specialized training in OR and Fluoroscopic procedures
